Data plays a critical role in the global economy and international affairs. As our collective digital footprint continues to grow, mastering data analytics is increasingly a core competence for policy professionals in the United States and beyond.

The program is designed for professionals in industry, government, and the non-profit sector who need to understand and apply data analytics in their research and practice. Participants learn how to manipulate, analyze, and visualize different data sets using the R statistical programming language. The program has a heavy focus on applied data analysis, with examples and cases tailored for professionals in domestic and international public policy.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gain an in-depth understanding of data analytics, including both statistical principles and statistical programming methods. 
  • Master key techniques of data collection, wrangling, descriptive analysis, regression models, predictive analysis, simulation, and visualization. 
  • Apply data analytics to real-world cases in international affairs, public policy, and business.

Course Policies




Hardware: laptop computer; webcam; microphone and speakers or headset.

Software: current web browser; Canvas; Zoom web conferencing; Microsoft Office or similar; Email; course specific software


After registering you will receive an email confirming your registration. You will be given access to a Canvas course that includes complete course information. You will have access to the Canvas course for the duration of the course.  


If an Executive Education program needs to be canceled because of a weather emergency or any other instance, the Executive Education team will communicate changes to the schedule through email, as well as provide alternative programming dates/options. The refund policy is documented in the subsequent list. Participants may receive an exception to the refund policy for documented extenuating circumstances, such as medical situations or military requirements. Petitions should be submitted to the SAIS Office of Executive Education. Refund requests should be emailed to* 

  • Refund 100% prior to course start date. 
  • Refund 50% prior to halfway point of the course. 
  • No refund after the halfway point of the course.
